Anwar Hussein has remained one of the close acquaintances of Princess Diana. The Bengali photographer has preserved every moment of Diana through the lens of his camera. Arguably, Anwar is probably the only photographer who has seen every facet of the princess of Wales.
Be it her youthful demeanor, charity work, or anguished death at the age of 36. Likewise, the queen’s entire life is presented in Anwar’s Chronicling Diana’s Journey. As a long-term royal photographer, Anwar has numberless Diana stories to tell.
However, this one is slightly different from all the stories of the royal photographer. Anwar recalls that Diana attended one of the concerts of popular Italic musician singer Luciano Pavarotti, in 1991. “The concert was organized at London’s Hyde Park, and the weather was chilly,” Hussein recalls.
Nonetheless, the concert was outdoor, and Diana was excited to see her favorite singer performing, says Anwar. The royal photographer says: “It was a rainy day, and everyone had their umbrellas up.” As the crowd put up their umbrellas, it was hard for Pavarotti to make eye contact with the audience – which is essential for every performer. “Pavarotti could hardly see the faces of the audience,” Hussein recalls.
Given this tough situation, the concert organizers wanted everyone to put down their umbrellas. “No one was ready for that,” says Hussein. “This is when Princess Diana came forward and put down her umbrella,” the royal photographer continues.
“The atmosphere of the Concert Changed in the Blink of an Eye”
“As soon as Lady Diana put down her umbrella, the crowd was shaken,” remarks Diana’s photographer Anwar Hussein. “This is when everyone in the audience followed her and put down their umbrellas,” he continues. Likewise, Hussien continues by saying “when the concert ended, Diana went up to Pavarotti with her soaking wet hairs, and took the memorable picture.”
Going out of her way, Diana went up to ask the singer to comment on her soaking wet hair. “You look gorgeous,” complimented Pavarotti. Furthermore, Hussein reveals that Diana and Pavarotti developed a friendship in no time. “She knew how to mesmerize the Italian singer with her charming picture poses,” Hussein asserts.
Hussein Was an “Inevitable Part of Diana’s Life”
Over the years, the Bengali Photographer Anwar Hussein and Princess Diana had developed a lovely working relationship. She took him to public events, international trips, and royal gatherings. In turn, he never failed to preserve Queen’s every aspect of life perfectly. Anwar concludes by saying, “I have seen every side of Lady Diana. She was a genuine, soft-hearted, gentle, and playful soul. I’m honored to be her photographer.”
